Standard Robot Command Interface (SRCI) is an open-standard for the command and data interface between a client Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and a server (UR controller). SRCI adds an additional layer to PROFInet that allows the user to program the robot from the PLC. UR SRCI interpreter ensures a frictionless integration with Siemens PLCs, since Siemens is the first PLC Vendor supporting SRCI in the automation market. It has been released in two versions:

Limited Release version URCap: Supports 20 Profile : Core functions and is free to use.

Broad Release version URCap: Supports all 29 Profile : Core functions and requires a paid license.

SRCI URCap installation and activation is a two step process. First, setup Universal Robot’s PROFInet. Second, install and license activation of SRCI URCap.

Note: No license is required to activate the limited version of the SRCI URCap.

Software Version required: Polyscope 5.15.0 or higher.

DEPENDENCIEs: Currently SRCI is valid for Siemens PLC users who has function block library ”SIMATIC Robot Library” as of version V1.1.0.1 with the following components-

  • TIA Portal V16 or higher
  • SIMATIC S7-1500(TF) – FW version V2.8 or higher

License type: One-time purchase.

Minimize reliance on remote teach pendant:

There will be different levels or classes in the SRCI. First, there will be a defined scope of functions that are necessary for all and for simple functions. For advanced functionality (Extended Profile and optional function) PolyScope might be needed for robot configuration and programming.
SRCI currently lacks support for safety configuration. To initiate the initial setup of safety features, it may still be necessary to utilize the UR Tech pendant.
